WFH Hack: Best Foot Forward

If you’re like me, your shoes complete you. I almost said “complete your outfit,” but let’s be real… I meant “you.” I never feel more powerful than when I’m in a pair of lace up sneaks or combat boots. Hell, even a sensible stiletto moment rocks my world a little bit.

And it’s not just me. Shoes are a psychological endeavor. Our feet are extremely sensitive, telling our brains where we are in any given moment. That’s why we move differently in our barefoot morning coffee routine than we do when walking through the grocery store. For better or for worse, because of the way we live in the modern world, we’ve learned to associate being barefoot with relaxing, and wearing shoes with productivity. So, while you might not be “dressing up” for work anymore, this simple step could help propel you through your workday:

PUT ON A PAIR OF SHOES.

I’m not talking slippers… I’m talking true-blue shoes you would wear outside on errands. Now, if you live in a city like me, you must be saying, “Steph, do you know where these shoes have been?” I sure do. I also know you probably have a pair in the back of your closet that hasn’t seen the light this year. That’s your pair. Put them on.

By finishing our process of getting dressed, we are telling our brains that something bigger has just begun. We are telling our brains that there is shit to get done today.

So, if you have the privilege of working from home - whether that’s in sweats or a suit - go lace up and let’s get to work.

More soon.
